Saving Lives Initiative is a renewing surgical medical and educational mission. In April 2016 we will provide surgical and medical care for individuals in the rural area of Kabala, Sierra Leone.
Medical missions such as this one are crucial to improving the health and well-being of people like those in Kabala. The risk can be high for the medical professionals in the group -especially in a poverty stricken country like Sierra Leone. All of our volunteers are using their own personal vacation time and self-financing their trip to help improve conditions in Sierra Leone.
In April, we’ll travel to Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, and travel by bus up into the mountains to the town of Kabala. There we’ll set up an operating room and triage those who come to get the free care we offer. All ages, all walks of life. We’ll operate on patients for seven days straight, sun up to sun down and then some.
While this is a surgical mission, our primary goal is that of education and proliferation of safe and available medicine. Some problems with missions set up as this, are to travel to your location, do some good, pack up and leave. Efforts like that tend to be a drop in the bucket. We are in accordance with the few medical providers in the region to develop a teaching and education mission. One that is sustainable, not only for further planned missions, but to provide the basic level of medical care we have in this country. Our programs ensure knowledge transfer that will equip our partners in Sierra Leone with the capacity to deliver quality healthcare.
Saving Lives Initiatives is a 501(c3) tax-exempt (Tax ID 47-5645999), non-profit organization. Excess funding will go to preparing for future missions. Through your donations, you are partnering with us and 100% of your donation will go towards achieving the following objectives:
• Organize and facilitate surgical/medical mission bi-annually.
• Organize training programs to support our goals of sustainability
• Renovate and promote a clean, sanitary, and healthy environment
