About this project

Synopsis:

Emeralds and Pearls

I’ve spent seventeen years being a wallflower. Seventeen years, watching people live their lives, while mine stood still. I was happy for those years, nothing new happened because I never let it, every day was the same and predictable.

When my parents told me we were moving…to another state, I freaked.

I spent the first week, after the move, wishing I could move back. But then something changed, I became a someone, and to begin with I enjoyed it, but I soon learned, some things aren’t always as they seem.

I have two lives now. Both of them are testing me, pushing me to my limits.

Killer Rubies

When you escape the grasp of fear, you learn to live the life you were handed; instead of just existing through the days. The helping hand that stayed with me was more than I could have hoped for, more than I dreamed of. He was holding my hand and helping me to ease my nightmares, helping me wake up with a smile on my face just for being me, and never trying to change that. He made me feel like I was standing on a pedestal just for him. And it was because of that, that I was standing at the edge of the beach with my soles wet from the sea, my toes digging into the sand from excitement. I was prepared to not show how scared I felt. I was prepared to make the most of being a mermaid and was prepared to follow Corys instructions so that I could swim freely, live freely in my second world and enjoy our secret. Under normal circumstances, I would have followed his advise word for word, Id learned not to ignore them. But, sometimes a curve ball comes sailing at you and you have no other choice, but to go against an unwritten law, that landed me in a watery Hell. Giving up on everything around you, should have been harder. But if it meant I was safe and my parents were okay, Id do it. Even if it meant, I had to let go of my helping hand.

The plot…

This story has been living in my head since I was a child. Back then it was simple, girl becomes a mermaid. That was enough imagination back then but as an adult, and when the story came back in to my head I developed it, otherwise it would be one short story…

I wanted to keep the story about mermaids but since being a child I have experienced more, discovered more and so I thought it would be good to try and tell those moments through the book, highlighting important things that can happen not only as a teen but for anyone.

So, yes she (Chelsea) becomes a mermaid, she also has to learn how to adapt to being noticed rather than being ignored. How to cope with her 1st crush. Relationships and sadly domestic abuse.

Through the series, I’ve watched (in my head) Chelsea go from being a quiet teen, young and naive to someone who tries to let go of her issues and live her life. As always, that is normally torn from our hands, and destroys us. When things are picking up, we normally take a fall. It was hard to build her back up after that, but I can honestly say that writing the third book gave me the opportunity to do that and proved that just because life tries to test us, we can win. If you have friends and family to support you, you’re already winning anyway.

What’s my plan?

Back in 2012 I started writing my 1st novel. Back then I didn’t know I was going to end up writing a trilogy and to be honest, i’m glad I didn’t, as it has been a nice surprise.

While writing the final installment in the Semi Precious series I decided to go back to the beginning and make the books better. They’ve not done too bad in the past [Click here for reviews] but I think it can do better. So i’m trying to get funding to do this and pay for an editor, to catch everything missed in the past and neaten up my English because I clearly paid NO attention at school.

After that, I will be sending the books to be printed, starting with 40 copies of each.

And finally, I’ll be re-promoting.

Once each book has been completed I will arrange a book blast for Emeralds and Pearls, and Killer Rubies. Embracing Aqua will get the deluxe package of a cover reveal, release blast and tour and then as a series, i will arrange a book blast.

How?

Between now and the end of July 2016 I will be working on Emeralds & Pearls. I am currently editing chapter 7 and falling back in love with my characters.

By the end of August 2016 I would like Killer Rubies to be re-edited and sent to the editor and Embracing Aqua which is about 1/4 written by the end of Dec 2016

Promotion will be organized as soon as the book is back from editors

I will only sell books through my own website www.carolinespencerupton.com

And because of that I can get the maximum usage for the ISBN’s by not selling through multiple re-sellers. Sorry, I didn’t mention that before but it’s just suddenly dawned on me that I need ISBNs (face palms)

Budget:

1000 per book = 3000 through www.firstediting.com

62 per book blast = 186 through www.indiesage.com

173 Deluxe package promotion through www.indiesage.com

200 per book for printing 40x books through www.bookprintinguk.com

227 for 10 isbns through www.myidentifiers.com

= 4186

+ 5% Kickstarter Fees

Risks and challenges

Timescales will always be an issue either because of life or the editors. However, as soon as books are completed I will release and send out the rewards so you’re not waiting for the whole campaign to be completed to get them
