The story of the project
Our goal is to set-up a working micro brewery in the near future, however in the meantime, Valhalla will “gypsy” brew its beers. This means Valhalla’s beers will be brewed using other breweries’ equipment. This will allow us to build the Valhalla brand, reputation and following before committing to purchasing expensive brewery equipment.
We have chosen our Obsidian Black Ale to be our first commercial quantity brew and need your help to see our dream transform into reality. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the birth of a unique and boutique hand crafted beer and brewery.
How the funds will be used
Obsidian is brewed in the style of Black IPA or Cascadian Black Ale. We prefer to simply call it a Black Ale as we don’t like to categorise our beers. Obsidian is made from a blend of pale and dark malts plus 3 hop varieties. It is deep black in colour with a slight red tinge when held up to the light. It has a creamy light brown head which stays for the duration of each glass. It provides cola, coffee and slight raspberry notes on the nose. Chocolate, coffee and toast flavours dominate the palate with a lingering herby bitterness that makes this beer a very moreish delight. ABV is around 6.9% with an intended IBU of 44.
OBSIDIAN LABEL
We will be brewing 500 litres of Obsidian Black Ale at Red Duck Brewery in Ballarat. We already have orders for Obsidian in Geelong, Bendigo and Melbourne and will hold at least 2 massive launch parties to celebrate the arrival of Obsidian and Valhalla Brewing onto Australia’s craft beer scene.
About us
In norse mythology, Valhalla is the great hall of Odin where Viking warriors go after they die to be reunited with their friends and loved ones. In essence it is the Viking’s heaven, where they feast, fight and drink beer for eternity. We reckoned this was the perfect name for a brewery (although we prefer to think of ourselves as lovers rather than fighters!).
Valhalla Brewing creates craft beer that honours the Viking philosophy that life is to be lived to the fullest. That life (and, of course, beer) is a gift from the gods and therefore should honour the gift that has been bestowed upon us. We intend to live up to this philosophy by producing brilliant beer and serving it in an environment where people are welcomed and encouraged to have a great time.
In time our intention is to set up a brewery/bar in the Surf Coast/Otway Ranges region. However we want to establish ourselves as a serious player in the craft beer scene first and so intend to release our Obsidian Black Ale by June 2016 and our Aragon Session IPA by December 2016.
Challenges
We have a strong business plan and vision for our company. Our founder Scott Hunt has over 15 years experience in the sales and marketing industry and has started, grown and sold numerous businesses in the design, marketing and real estate industries.
We already have the Obsidian recipe, label design, t-shirts and truckers caps, now all we need is YOU to become a part of the birth of Obsidian and Valhalla Brewing!
