About this project
Our mission for VedaFoods is to continue to develop great tasting, nutritious, healthy, pre-packaged, affordable, all natural food and life style products to promote health and wellness. Today, we announce a new line of GlutenFree foods with your help.
VedaFoods Value Proposition for Better Health
VedaFoods, based in Mountain View, CA, began by solving a daily problem faced by millions of diabetics, pre-diabetics and other sugar-conscious individuals around the world: eating the “Right Foods.” As a holistic doctor with 30+ years of experience in diet and lifestyle counseling, VedaFoods founder Dr. Jay Apte was shocked to discover that very few healthy food choices are available in the market today for the diabetic community, even though diet plays the most important role in their daily lives. She was determined to change that and help people lead a normal, healthy life by offering delicious, nutritious and well-balanced foods. Thus, VedaFoods was born!
We launched our first line of Barley Pilafs with 5 delicious flavors – Indian, Italian, Chinese, Mexican and Thai in September 2015 and they have been a great success and already making a big difference in people’s lives by helping to “avoid spikes” in their blood sugar levels.
Today, we are excited to launch a new series of offerings: GlutenFree! Perfect for our existing customers that may be diabetic but also for those with a gluten sensitivity or celiac disease, or ANY consumer concerned about the ingredients in their foods.
VedaFoods integrates modern science, ancient Ayurvedic wisdom and excellent culinary skills and starting now, Quinoa based recipes, and soon Samo Rice. Our foods are all natural, vegan, vegetarian, and additives free.
VedaFoods are made with care in the USA in FDA approved food manufacturing facilities employing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Why gluten-free?
“Are there any good prepackaged meals out there for people with a gluten sensitivity or celiac disease?”
Dr. Jay Apte believes that is the very question asked by many of the now 20+ million people in the US alone who state they often experience discomfort after eating products that contain gluten. A valid question, with a great answer.
We created this line of pre-packaged, gluten-free foods with grains that are all-natural, low-glycemic, and contain complex carbs with high fiber, which are free of any sugars, additives or preservatives and are naturally gluten-free. And, they only take 15 minutes to cook. Two (2) Servings per package.
Against the Grain — Should you go gluten-free?
“David Perlmutter, a neurologist and the author of another of the gluten-free movement’s foundational texts, ‘Grain Brain: The Surprising Truth About Wheat, Carbs, and Sugar—Your Brain’s Silent Killers,’ goes further still. Gluten sensitivity, he writes, “represents one of the greatest and most under-recognized health threats to humanity.’’
“Sales of gluten-free products will exceed fifteen billion dollars by 2016, twice the amount of five years earlier. The growing list of gluten-free options has been a gift for many children, who no longer have to go through life knowing that they will never eat pizza, cookies, or cake.” —The New Yorker
Our Solution?
First of Five New GlutenFree Offerings
Notice in the rewards that someone will have the opportunity to help us decide the spices and names of the other four offerings.
“Second only to maybe kale, quinoa is the health food star of our time. The Food and Agriculture Organization named 2013 the International Year of Quinoa, after all. This tiny grain-like food is full of good-for-you nutrition and tastes great in just about anything: salads, omelettes and even cakes.” —Huffington Post
Quinoa Pilaf and Samo Rice — Delivered right to your door
Even more exciting, these new offerings are perfect additions to our culinary cuisine for the diabetic or sugar-conscious consumer.
As you would expect, our GlutenFree offerings will be sugar free, low glycemic, with complex carbs and soluble fiber (everything you expect from Healthy Food), all natural, vegan and (of course) no preservatives (or artificial anything), and Made in the USA.
What will the money be used for?
Preparing a great meal is more art; that’s why they call it The Culinary Arts! It is more than science, like invention but even more so. There are tons of details to such an undertaking:
- First, there are the ingredients; selecting and sourcing, which includes the spices
- Taste “testing” to assure great taste
- Testing for Gluten
- Certification, Gluten-Free of course, and Allergen-Free . It would not be good to learn late in the process that cross-contaminations occurred
- Package Design for the individual packs plus the cartons for shipping
- Marketing materials
- Professional videos
- Web site revisions
We have carefully calculated the expenses required to launch these offerings, plus priced the rewards fairly to insure that we can fulfill demand. Even if demand exceeds our wildest dreams.
The good news is that we have been through this effort last year launching VedaFoods’ diabetic line and therefore, we have a proven track record and detailed expense reports.
Questions & Answers
Q-Does Gluten-Free mean zero Gluten?
A-The FDA thinks 20 ppm (parts per million) is the same as zero ppm. We don’t, we can test for “no discernible levels” which is <5 ppm. Could be zero, but the best technology available is only sensitive (will only detect) if a sample is 5+ ppm.
Q-Your existing offerings are based on Barley, one of three grains high in gluten. How do you assure that cross-contaminations is not an issue?
A-We use a separate kitchen and isolated supply chain to source all the ingredients required, and then of course we test each batch.
“My A1C dropped from 7.7 to 7.2 by eating VedaFoods once per day, every day for 60 days. I was diagnosed as a diabetic in 1999, and for the first time in 16 years my A1C reading (which had kept on increasing) dropped from 7.7 to 7.2 (6.5% decrease) and my fasting blood sugar dropped below 100. —RGS, Atlanta
Looking for Something Healthy That’s Fast, Easy, Tasty, Convenient, and Vegan?
“These Barley Pilafs are great because they are healthy, tasty, and convenient. Adding other ingredients creates a fast, full, flavorful, and satisfying meal…” —TQ, Ph.D.
Pass the Barley, Please
“You never quite know what to expect when a meal comes out of a pouch, but we were both pleasantly surprised. The pilaf was full of flavor and it reminded me of quinoa.” —KO
Convenience and Affordability
“VedaFoods offers delicious taste, convenience, portion control, ease of preparation, and affordability. It’s also vegan!” —PP
