Why cycling?
The idea of our ‘ for the love of cycling’ project essentialy comes from our own love of cycling, and our involvement in cycle orientated charity events.
For the last 6 years, we have been involved in a local charity ride, travelling coast to coast, east to west, raising money for various charities, including Help For Heroes, SSAFA,RNLI and Cancer Research UK.
So what do we want to achieve?
Our aim with this new project is to use our knowledge and experience within the cycle trade to deliver cost free tutorials and mentoring to groups of all ages such as Scouts and other similar groups, about care and maintenance of cycling, and also promote cycling in and around our local area, working with other local companies to promote the benefits of cycling both for the individual and the environment, with the goal to hopefully increase the overall number of people cycling and increase the number of cycle orientated facilities available in the area.
How do we plan to achieve this?
Our tutorials will provide detailed talks and demonstrations using dedicated, bespoke course layouts suited to each group and using the latest tools and equipment to do so, while also giving the option to the participants to bring along their own cycles and carry out the course on them, therefore essentialy recieving a free healthcheck/service on their own cycles and familarising them with the cycle that they will regularly ride.
As well as the tutorials, we aim to offer cost free mobile technical support to all local charity rides. This will give the organisers another vehicle and fully Cytech qualified pair of hands on the rides, and also means that we are able to make sure that if any participants have any mechanical issues with their cycles on the ride, that it can be rectified quickly and efficiently to get them back on their way and finish the ride.
With this ability we wish to increase the number of charity rides available in the area, in the hope that this will also increase the number of active cyclists in and around the local area, while at the same time being able to generate more funds for the charities.
Our target of £13000 is to purchase new equipment, tools and dedicated transport for the tutorials and also for the ride support and will ensure that we can meet every aspect of our goals and working with suppliers that we have through the trade, be able to offer as much back to the community as possible.
With the main website currently underway, with launch date the 1st or march, along with a facebook page seperate from our current one, which will have a dedicated section for ‘For the love of cycling’ , we want to reach as far affield as possible and look to create a network of people to offer a similar service accross the country so as many groups and organisations can benefit from this, as well as being able to recieve feedback, ideas and also requests from people who would like us to support them in any way we can.
Once fully up and running, we will look to source unwanted cycles in need of tlc and repair, use them in our tutorial groups and then once repaired, these will be sold and 100% of the profit will go to cycling charities, so not only using them to teach, but also to raise money for these charities.
We thankyou for any support, and will always welcome any input and suggestions, we want our idea to take off and benefit as many people as possible and continue to evolve to include new ideas and increase what we can offer.
