The Bombchel Factory is an African fashion wonderland that produces ethically made, high quality garments for sale in Monrovia, Liberia. With this Kickstarter, we’re excited to finally expand and make our unique designs accessible to women all around the world, starting with you. We hire and train some of the most disadvantaged people of an already disadvantaged Liberia, with employees who either had Ebola or lost their spouses to the virus, and interns who are rape survivors or students from the Hope School for the Deaf. The mission AND the clothes are unforgettable, and through Kickstarter you will get a personalized, custom experience.

Our Driving Force: The Backstory

The Bombchel Factory was started by Archel Bernard, a Liberian-American whose parents fled civil unrest in the West African country. Archel came to Liberia to visit and ended up falling in love with her ancestral homeland. She was heartbroken by the poverty but inspired by the resilience of the people. Archel started contributing to Liberia by making regular donations to charities. However, she wanted to make a lasting impact. 

The Bombchel Factory is committed to training some of the most disadvantaged people and changing their lives. Our team of expert tailors and excited trainees can produce much more than we can sell locally, so we have set our sights on the rest of the world. This is not an NGO that is here today and gone tomorrow. We know Liberians don’t want handouts.  Our trainees will develop a trade and a way to support themselves and their families, and we will create gorgeous, contemporary African fashions for a global market.

Your purchase will bring opportunities of empowerment to young people who otherwise would not have a trade. We are not a charity. This is about being a good business, and we all know good businesses work to make money while at the same time building enduring institutions. The Bombchel Factory method is to invest in the future while striving to build people, and hopefully an entire society. 

Our goal is to create long lasting social impact through our company.  We train Ebola affected people, deaf students and rape survivors. Some of our trainees will stay with us after the training program ends but most of them will take what they have learned and start their own businesses. This will allow them to break the chain of poverty and become self-sufficient. To top it all off, the product is dope.

By backing this campaign, you are purchasing the CUSTOM experience. Our official online store launches in September, alongside our New York Fashion Week event, but only you, our Kickstarter backers, will get to choose from several gorgeous patterns for your custom fitted item.
